Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year with AFI or 2 years relevant work experience.
  • Associate’s or BA/BS degree may substitute for experience.
  • Excellent verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent written communications skills for formal recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Keyboard skills ≥30 wpm; ability to learn AFI systems.
  • Ability to analyze information and apply it to compliance actions.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making; prioritize work.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current filing documentation and formatting requirements.
  • Produce and distribute required compliance documentation.

Role Description

The Compliance Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Leavenworth, KS. Compiles all information required to develop fully documented rule and form filing recommendations for review by AFI management and state regulatory authorities;

  • Analyzes regulatory bulletins and circulars to determine potential impact of pending changes on AFI operations and automated systems;
  • Communicates directly with state insurance departments as necessary to request additional information, provide clarification or justification for requested action, and to facilitate implementation of requested actions;
  • Maintains current knowledge of appropriate state filing documentation and formatting requirements so as to expedite processing of requested actions;
  • Creates, distributes, and maintains required documentation (both system and hard-copy) relating to completed actions. Ensures AFI’s continuing regulatory compliance by coordinating with department processors to implement changes that impact AFI operating units;
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the unit and company objectives.

  • BA/BS Degree may be substituted for this requirement
  • Excellent verbal communications skills
  • Excellent written communications skills, to include the ability to produce well-documented recommendations for approval by AFI management and consideration by insurance regulators
  • Working knowledge of MS Outlook
  • Detailed knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Keyboard skills of at least 30wpmAbility to learn to utilize AFI’s computer systems and complex query tools for data access and entry
  • Ability to perform basic math functions to include calculation of percentages and ratios
  • Ability to quickly gather and analyze information needed to determine appropriate action on compliance issues
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to accomplish work according to established priorities and procedures
  • Ability to coordinate with other units/departments and to guide the work activities of other unit staff
