Compliance Specialist – Affordable Housing

Location: New York City
Compensation: Up to $93K + bonus

Overview

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Compliance Specialist to support affordable housing operations and ensure compliance with applicable housing regulations and program requirements. This role will focus on resident recertifications, file reviews, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with property management teams and housing agencies. The ideal candidate will have experience within affordable housing/property management environments and a strong understanding of compliance procedures related to subsidy and housing programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and maintain resident files and compliance documentation
• Support recertification and eligibility review processes
• Ensure compliance with affordable housing regulations and program guidelines
• Conduct audits and identify missing or inaccurate documentation
• Work closely with property management teams and external agencies regarding compliance matters
• Assist with reporting, regulatory reviews, and operational support
• Maintain accurate records within property management systems
• Support process improvements and ensure timely completion of compliance-related tasks

Qualifications

• Prior experience in affordable housing, compliance, or property management
• Experience working with HDC and familiarity with housing subsidy programs preferred
• Ability to interpret regulatory documents, tenant files, and compliance requirements
• Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS) or similar certification preferred
• Working knowledge of Yardi Voyager or related property management software
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage deadlines and multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with affordable multi-family housing portfolios
• Familiarity with HUD, LIHTC, or other affordable housing programs
• Collaborative and proactive approach to problem-solving
