Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking a Complex Liability Adjuster to handle Commercial General Liability (CGL) and Business Owners Policy (BOP) claims from initial investigation through resolution. This role focuses on litigated and in-suit files, including complex liability exposures such as tow yards and automotive-related operations.

The position requires extensive experience in CGL claims, litigation management, and strong negotiation skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of insurance industry experience with hands-on CGL claims handling.
• 5+ years of managing litigated and in-suit CGL and BOP claims.
• Experience handling complex liability exposures (tow yards, vehicle storage, automotive-related, premises).
• Strong litigation management, claim valuation, and negotiation strategies.
• Experience analyzing coverage and applying policy language to liability claims.
• Proven ability to work with defense counsel and manage claims through litigation lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Manage litigated and in-suit claims, partnering with defense counsel, experts and vendors throughout litigation.
• Review policy language and determine coverage, liability, damages, and litigation strategy.
• Develop and execute claim resolution plans for timely and cost-effective outcomes.

• Maintain accurate claim documentation per company and regulatory requirements.

This role focuses on litigated and in‑suit files, including complex liability exposures involving tow yards, automotive‑related operations, and other general liability risks.

What You’ll Do

• Manage litigated and in-suit claims, partnering with defense counsel, experts and vendors throughout the litigation process
• Review policy language and determine coverage, liability, damages, and litigation strategy
• Develop and execute claim resolution plans that support timely and cost‑effective outcomes
• Negotiate settlements with claimants, attorneys, and other involved parties
• Maintain accurate claim documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
• Communicate with insureds, claimants, attorneys, vendors, and internal stakeholders

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of insurance industry experience, including hands‑on Commercial General Liability (CGL) claims handling
• 5+ years of experience managing litigated and in‑suit CGL and BOP claims
• Experience handling complex liability exposures, including tow yards, vehicle storage facilities, automotive‑related, transportation, or premises liability claims preferred
• Strong understanding of litigation management, claim valuation, and negotiation strategies
• Experience analyzing coverage issues and applying policy language to liability claims
• Proven ability to work effectively with defense counsel and manage claims through the litigation lifecycle
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple complex claims and competing priorities
• Experience using claims management systems and standard business applications
• JD preferred, or bachelor’s degree with significant experience handling litigated liability claims
• Licensing Requirement: Candidates must hold an active adjuster license or be willing and able to obtain and maintain all required state licenses. The company will support the licensing process, including training and compliance with ongoing continuing education requirements

Salary

$70,000 - $115,000. In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a good‑faith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
