What You Put In Is What You Get Out

This is a compensation architecture role for someone who sees pay as performance logic, equity as alignment, and tokenomics as future economic infrastructure. You’ll work across functions to ensure everyone—from contributors to creators—are fairly and transparently rewarded with aligned upside.

This is a 20-hour/week minimum equity-partner role. No upfront salary—compensation includes:

  • Founding partner-level equity (standard vesting)
  • Future token-based rewards (pending legal clearance)
  • Salary activates based on revenue/funding milestones
  • Fully remote, async-native, global-first culture

Overview

We’re seeking a Compensation Specialist to join AU and support the design, modeling, and operational rollout of a next-generation Total Rewards system—grounded in equity, fairness, and future-forward alignment.

This is a cross-functional, data-driven, and strategic role. You’ll partner with:

  • The Head of Total Rewards to maintain and evolve our global compensation system
  • Business leaders to align role definitions with performance KPIs and leveling
  • Legal to structure offer letters, terms, and compliant global pay processes
  • Finance and HR to ensure accuracy, scalability, and audit-readiness of rewards

You’ll serve as the truth-holder for equity and fairness—ensuring our global team is paid in ways that reflect their contributions and future value.

What You’ll Own

Compensation Architecture & Benchmarking

  • Maintain up-to-date, scalable compensation banding, leveling, and role architecture across departments
  • Own and operationalize internal fairness frameworks for role calibration, promotion paths, and total compensation tracking
  • Maintain clean datasets and real-time modeling for comp, equity, and token-based rewards
  • Benchmark pay across peer orgs in tech, creative, gaming, and frontier ecosystems

Offer Letters, Legal Structures & Compliance

  • Partner with legal and HR to craft compliant, clear offer letters for equity, token, and hybrid roles
  • Align comp policies with jurisdictional employment standards (US, Canada, and global markets)
  • Define and evolve documentation and approval flows for hiring, leveling, and comp changes
  • Ensure data hygiene and version control across all total rewards documentation

Business Partnering & KPI Alignment

  • Work directly with business leaders and department heads to define KPI frameworks tied to comp models
  • Ensure all roles are clearly mapped to expectations, responsibilities, and performance milestones
  • Support performance review cycles with aligned comp logic and upside design
  • Operate as the go-to partner for compensation fairness escalations and tiering discussions

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Expertise

  • 5+ years in compensation, rewards, or people analytics roles—ideally in high-growth, cross-border orgs
  • Strong experience with equity frameworks (RSUs, ISOs, phantom shares, etc.) and/or token-based logic
  • Experience designing offer letters, leveling guides, and KPI-aligned comp systems
  • Familiarity with HRIS, cap table platforms (Carta, Pulley), and benchmarking tools

Mindset & Capabilities

  • Deep commitment to equity, fairness, and transparency in compensation design
  • Analytical and systems-minded; loves building clear, scalable, and compliant processes
  • Effective communicator who can explain complex comp logic in plain language
  • Bonus: experience in DAOs, token economies, or blockchain-based rewards systems

Compensation

  • Future Salary: Tied to revenue or funding milestones
