Job summary

Heartland Veterinary Partners in Corbin, Kentucky, seeks a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in providing high-quality care for dogs and cats. You will assist with exams, surgical preparation, sample collection, and in-house lab work while educating clients and maintaining clean, organized work areas.

Successful candidates will have weekend availability, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn safety protocols and proper PPE.

Qualifications

• Ability to work on weekends as required.
• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; assist over 25 pounds with help.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.
• Basic math and ability to calculate medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office applications, etc.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment.
• Monitor hospitalized pets and educate clients regarding veterinary care and procedures.
• Assist with surgical procedures and prepare patients for surgery.
• Take histories, vital signs, and weights during outpatient exams.
• Obtain samples and perform in-house laboratory testing; prepare specimens for outside labs.
• Take and develop radiographs following safety procedures.
• Maintain exam rooms, treatment, and lab areas; restock supplies.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism with clients and patients.
