Job summary

Petco in Massachusetts is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to provide top-notch medical care to Vetco Total Care patients and exceptional customer service to their owners. You will support doctors with routine and emergency visits, surgeries, dentistry, and anesthesia, while maintaining EMRs and client education.

You will help keep the hospital clean, coordinate appointments, and contribute to a collaborative, pet-first team focused on compassionate care and positive outcomes for every patient.

Qualifications

• Preferred to have at least 1-year previous experience working in veterinary practice or sufficient relatable animal care experience.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and maintain a professional attitude during stressful situations.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs and record the EMR.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications and maintain EMR.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and maintain records.
• Prepare patients for procedures and monitor anesthesia under supervision.
• Perform in-hospital treatments including medications and IV fluids; accompany and assist as needed.
• Assist in training of new staff and share knowledge as required.
• Keep hospital environment neat, clean, and on maintenance schedule.
• Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed.
