Job summary

National Veterinary Associates is seeking a veterinary assistant to support the hospital team. You will assist with patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, and help with diagnostics and housekeeping in a busy practice in Rapid City, SD.

The role requires a team-oriented mindset, physical stamina, and the ability to work with animals in various states of stress or illness. Prior experience is preferred but not required, with training provided as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Self-starter who can multitask and works well in a team.
• Enjoys working with animals and stays calm with stressed/ill/painful animals.
• Prefer 1+ years of experience, but not required.
• Must meet physical demands: lift/carry, restrain animals up to 40 lbs.
• Stand/walk for extended periods; may crouch/squat.
• Team-based hospital approach and good collaboration across staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care and treatment.
• Monitor hospitalized pets and assist after surgery.
• Maintain inventory and stocking.
• Restrain animals during blood draws and nail trims.
• Aid with routine diagnostic tests (radiographs, bloodwork, fecal).
• Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments/equipment.
• Clean/Disinfect cages, kennels, exam and treatment areas.
• Administer medications under supervision of Veterinarian/Vet Tech.
• Feed/bathe animals.
• Answer phones and assist clients with their pets.
