Job summary

The Pet Hospital is a full-service hospital that has provided high-standard medical care for pets in our community since 2001. We strive to know each patient and make families part of our veterinary family.

As a Veterinary Assistant, you will support veterinarians and technicians with patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, prepare prescriptions, perform in-house lab work, educate clients regarding veterinary care, and assist with surgical procedures.

Qualifications

• Weekend availability required.
• Prior veterinary experience required.
• Ability to lift/pick up to 25 pounds; heavier lifts with assistance.
• OSHA safety techniques with PPE.
• Basic math for medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery.
• Assist in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, and educating clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-house lab work.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments.
• Clean and restock exam rooms and labs; maintain equipment.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism with clients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and team members about patient plans and concerns.
• Any other duties as assigned.
