Job summary

Heartland Veterinary Partners in McKinney, TX, seeks a dedicated Veterinary Technician to assist veterinarians in medicine and surgery, perform in‑house lab work, and educate clients. The role involves radiography, anesthesia monitoring, and maintaining a clean, organized clinic environment.

Applicants should have prior veterinary tech experience, be able to lift up to 25 pounds with assistance, and be comfortable working weekends. Training on Ezyvet software and MS Office is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to work weekends as required.
• Previous veterinary technician experience required.
• Prior experience with Ezyvet software preferred.
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; with assistance up to 25 pounds.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques and use proper PPE.
• Basic math skills and ability to calculate medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office applications.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in practice of veterinary medicine and surgery.
• Assist with outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, and providing client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in‑house laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment, and lab areas; restock exam rooms with supplies.
• Assist other team members to keep public areas clean; maintain all medical equipment.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy, professionalism, compassion, and care in all interactions with clients and patients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and practice team members regarding client discussions, patient plans, and concerns.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
