Job summary

City Rescue Mission of Lansing is recruiting a Shelter Security professional to oversee access to our facilities, perform rounds, and maintain safety for guests and staff. The role requires calm handling of intense situations and adherence to shelter policies with firmness and compassion.

Responsibilities include monitoring entries, using safety tools, de-escalation support, and coordinating with emergency services.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office (MS Suite) required.
• 1 year security experience preferred; CPR/AED/NARCAN training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor entry to shelter and verify guest/visitor authorization.
• Operate safety tools and incident response equipment to protect guests and staff.
• Conduct regular rounds to ensure building security and policy compliance.
• De-escalate conflicts and escort individuals off property when needed.
• Be liaison to emergency services with relevant information on hand.
• Apply safety measures (no trespassing lists, bars) as required.
• Assist with phone and front-desk communications and maintain orderly workspace.
• Follow shelter policies and procedures; participate in trainings and meetings.
