Job summary

Mercy seeks a compassionate SANE RN to provide trauma-informed forensic nursing care to sexual assault survivors in our Healthcare & Medical Services department across the Midwest. You will perform comprehensive forensic examinations, collect and preserve evidence, document findings, and testify in court as needed while collaborating with law enforcement and multidisciplinary teams.

Ongoing SANE education and professional growth are encouraged, with opportunities for advancement and involvement

Qualifications

• Active RN license in state of practice.
• SANE-A or SANE-P certification (or eligibility/commitment to obtain within defined timeframe).
• BLS certification.
• ACLS and/or PALS preferred.
• Completion of didactic and clinical SANE training program.
• Experience in emergency, forensic, or women’s health settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive forensic examinations for sexual assault patients of all ages.
• Collect, preserve, and document forensic evidence following legal protocols.
• Deliver trauma-informed, patient-centered care and education.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, advocacy agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in medical and legal records.
• Participate in on-call coverage and rapid response for SANE cases.
• Testify in court proceedings as needed.
• Support quality improvement, policy development, and staff education.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, legal, and ethical standards.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and SANE-specific training.
