Job summary

ScionHealth is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform venipunctures and related specimen collection tasks, ensuring accurate labeling and documentation. The role involves preparing specimens for testing, maintaining work areas, and adhering to infection control protocols while interacting professionally with patients.

The successful candidate will collect blood samples, log results in the LIS, and support clerical tasks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program preferred.
• Six months acute care phlebotomy experience or one year outpatient lab experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures and capillary punctures for blood collection as ordered.
• Label, log, and process specimens per laboratory protocols.
• Prepare collection trays and maintain cleanliness of work areas.
• Provide patients with clear instructions on collection procedures and tests.
• Monitor patient condition during and after collection to ensure safety.
• Document specimen collection in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Assist with clerical tasks including filing, data entry, and patient records management.
• Ensure infection control and safety protocols are followed in all patient interactions.
• Respond to inquiries from patients, staff, and departments regarding laboratory services.
• Participate in training, quality assurance, and continuing education as required.
