Job summary

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a compassionate Animal Assistance Specialist to join our Papago Park Campus team, working Thursday through Monday, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM. You will support pet owners, assist with intake and resource provision, and act as a storyteller for our mission to improve the lives of animals and people alike.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of one year providing exemplary customer service.
• Must love working with pets and people.
• Provide excellent experience to internal & external customers in a timely, courteous, professional manner.
• Record concerns at check-in, perform basic medical checks (TPR), weigh and vaccinate.
• Provide rehoming resources during surrender appointments and for walk-ins.
• Review animal profiles to determine adoption suitability.
• Collect Animal Assistance fees and solicit donations.
• Tell our story as a voice for AHS during checkout.
• Pull daily admission reports (e.g., Med Tech to Dispo, photos, bite reports, ID Check, RTO).
• Answer admissions calls and emails in a compassionate tone.
• Assist with end-of-life and aftercare services including fees and remembrance paw prints.
• Maintain a positive, empathetic tone when outcomes are not positive.
• Assist Good Samaritans with lost/found pets and return-to-owner coordination.
• Collaborate with Pet Resource Center on surrender prevention & customer experience efforts.

Responsibilities

• Provide an excellent experience for pets and people at every encounter.
• Support intake of owned and stray animals and provide surrender resources when possible.
• Assist Field Operations with over-the-counter surrender processing and large-scale intakes.
• Offer return-to-owner services and help owners locate lost pets.
