Job summary

Danbury Hospital, part of Northwell Health, seeks a certified nursing assistant (CNA) to assist with patient care under licensed staff supervision. Tasks include basic nursing care, daily living activities, and ensuring patient comfort and safety in a hospital unit.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent; hospital experience is preferred but not required. Active CNA certification is preferred, with BLS/CPR required within 90 days of start and orientation completion.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience in a hospital environment is preferred but not required.
• Active CNA certification is preferred.
• BLS/CPR required within 90 days of start date or upon orientation completion.

Responsibilities

• Provide physical care to assigned patients and perform basic nursing tasks.
• Implement nursing orders promptly with understanding of their purpose.
• Follow unit policies for patient care activities and equipment.
• Assist with patient comfort: positioning, bathing, linens, personal items.
• Maintain patient safety through side rails, alarms, and proactive monitoring.
• Enter data into the electronic medical record (EHR) system as applicable.
• Communicate patient and visitor information to the nurse in charge.
• Provide age-appropriate care, showing knowledge of growth and development.
• Report changes in patient condition or new reactions to the nurse in charge.
• Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in patient care processes.
• Collaborate with healthcare team and patients/families to support care.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked work area and assist with equipment.

Education
