Job summary

Norwalk Hospital Association in Norwalk, CT is seeking a patient care assistant to provide direct patient care and support under licensed staff supervision. The role involves performing nursing-related tasks, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining a clean, well-stocked unit environment.

High school diploma and up to six months of hospital experience are expected; CNA preferred and BLS/CPR within 90 days of start. The position is on-site with a focus on compassionate care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• BLS/CPR certification required within 90 days or upon orientation completion.
• Active CNA certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides physical care to assigned patients and performs technical skills such as point of care (POC) testing.
• Implements nursing orders promptly and with understanding of purpose.
• Follows policy and procedures for assigned patient care activities including unit equipment.
• Maintains patient comfort and safety through positioning, bathing, linens, and courteous care.
• Ensures patient safety with preventative measures and hourly rounding.
• Records data into the computer system as applicable and communicates observations to the nurse in charge.
• Delivers care appropriate to the age of patients on the unit, considering growth and development.
• Reports and records changes in patient condition to the nurse in charge.
• Recognizes priorities in patient care and exercises good judgement.
• Maintains a safe and orderly work environment and assists with unit equipment.
• Acts as Safety Attendant/Patient Sitter for designated patients per standards of service excellence.
• Attends staff meetings and reads sign-off on meeting minutes.
• Maintains Basic Life Support competency.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
