Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) in a part-time daytime schedule. The PCA provides compassionate bedside care, assists with meals and activities of daily living, and supports the bedside RN with vital signs and safety measures.

Ideal candidates hold current Basic Life Support certification, understand age-appropriate care, and maintain high standards of infection control and communication in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served.
• Requires up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Requires proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Requires constant mental awareness and the ability to withstand high levels of tension and stress.
• Requires ability to maintain concentration when subjected to interruptions and variable noise levels.
• Requires ability to exercise judgment and initiative in problem resolution.
• Requires ability to set priorities and manage a high workload within limited time.
• Requires knowledge of infection control principles.
• Requires ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive movements.
• Requires reading and performing basic math.
• Requires organizing tasks and attention to details.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks, assist with meal ordering, encourage walking, and assist with baths.
• Provide clean linens and gowns for patients.
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities to the RN or charge nurse.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts and bed/chair alarms, staying within arm's reach.
• Support bedside RN with clinical tasks and patient care activities.
