Job summary

Indiana University Health System is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to provide compassionate bedside care, assist with drinking, meals, walking, baths, and clean linens. The PCA supports the bedside RN by obtaining vitals and reporting changes, uses gait belts and alarms to keep patients safe, and works to deliver a positive patient experience in a high-volume hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served.
• Knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain concentration amid interruptions and noise.
• Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in problem solving.
• Ability to set priorities and manage a high workload.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive movements.
• Ability to read and perform basic math.
• Ability to organize tasks and attend to details.

Responsibilities

• Provide bedside care and assist with meals, drinking, walking, baths, and linen changes.
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities to the bedside RN or charge nurse.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts, bed and chair alarms, and staying within arm's reach.
• Support patients in a fast-paced hospital environment and deliver compassionate care.
