Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to provide basic nursing care under RN supervision. The role supports daily living activities, hygiene, nutrition, and vital signs in a patient-centered unit.

The candidate should be a certified nurse aide or actively enrolled in a health science program, with BLS/CPR certification and preferred acute care experience. The position is dayshift with 0.9 FTE status and weekends/shift requirements as applicable.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must meet one of the following requirements: CENA certification, enrollment in health science program with nursing fundamentals course and/or clinical rotation, or equivalent enrollment/experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider required.
• Experience in acute care or extended care facility preferred.
• Able to complete unit-specific core competencies as defined in orientation.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide patient comfort (bed making, turning, ambulation, transfers, ROM).
• Assist with hygiene activities.
• Perform catheter care (excluding insertion/removal) and wound/dressings care.
• Assist with postmortem care.
• Assist with nutrition (passing trays, feeding, recording intake).
• Assist with elimination and record input/output.
• Collect specimens (sputum, urine, stool) and perform basic urine tests; measure weight and vital signs.
• Measure vital signs and weight using appropriate equipment.
