Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) for a full-time Days position. The PCA will provide bedside care, assist with meals, mobility, baths, and linens, and support the bedside RN with vital signs and reporting changes.

The role emphasizes patient safety, infection control, and compassionate, team-based care within a busy hospital. The PCA will work under the supervision of RNs and charge nurses, using gait belts and alarms to ensure patient safety and deliver outstanding care.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or completion of IU Health PCA education.
• Requires knowledge of age-appropriate care for patients.
• Requires up-to-date knowledge of patient care procedures and standards.
• Requires proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Requires ability to maintain concentration amid interruptions and stress.
• Requires judgment and initiative to resolve problems in patient care tasks.
• Requires ability to manage a high workload and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living (drinks, meals, baths) and provide clean linens and gowns.
• Assist with walking and mobility; use gait belts and patient safety alarms.
• Provide bedside care and clinical assistance to the bedside RN; report abnormalities to RN/charge nurse.
• Maintain patient safety and hygiene, including infection control practices.
• Support a fast-paced hospital environment while delivering compassionate care.
