Job summary

Tufts Medicine in Lowell, MA is seeking a Nursing Support professional for the D3 Medical Surgical Unit. This role provides basic patient care under nurse supervision and handles ADLs, patient transport, and room preparation in a fast-paced acute care setting.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma and BLS, with preferred 1 year healthcare experience and CNA-like certifications. Shifts are 36 hours weekly, day/evening, with weekend rotations and holiday coverage.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• One (1) year of healthcare experience preferred
• Certified patient care, clinical associate, certified nursing assistant or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of a nurse, performs all aspects of activities of daily living (ADLs) patient care.
• Prepares patient rooms for admission.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment for the patient.
• Prioritizes patient care according to nursing direction and discharge plan.
• Transports patient to procedures/discharge within/from hospital as directed.
• Cleans and operates equipment safely and correctly.
• Prepares patients for meals, assists with meals or feeds patient as necessary.
• Performs technical tasks (glucometer use, lift devices, specimen collection).
• Collects, records and reports accurate patient data timely.
• Performs duties of a Patient Sitter and maintains continuous observation per guidelines.
• Provides clerical support as needed.
• Greets visitors professionally and directs to destination.
• Answers phone professionally and directs caller to appropriate person.
• Screens entry to department and enforces security policies.
• Completes admission/transfer/discharge tasks in an organized manner.
• Maintains paper components in patient charts.
• Builds caring relationships with patients, families and team members.
• Reports variances per hospital policy and participates in department meetings.
