Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support nursing staff under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role focuses on measuring and documenting vital signs, assisting with daily patient needs, and ensuring patient comfort.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and ideally 1 year of patient care experience; Basic Life Support (BLS) is required on hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of patient care experience in a health care facility preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required on hire and maintained thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized.
• Assist patients with everyday needs (personal hygiene, using restroom, grooming).
• Monitor vital signs and patient condition.
• Assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments.
• Ensure rooms have adequate patient care supplies; linen is clean.
• Provide emotional support to patients.
• Place patient on cardiac monitor.
• Empty drains, ostomies, Foley bags.
• Perform blood sugar checks.
• Assist with other duties assigned by department leader.
