Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support a decentralized, patient-centered approach. Under RN supervision, the PCT measures vital signs, moves patients, and reports concerns, while providing empathetic, organized care to patients and families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of patient care work experience in a health care facility or as a CNA preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire and must be maintained.

Responsibilities

• Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized.
• Assist patients with everyday needs (personal hygiene, restroom, grooming).
• Monitor vital signs and patient condition (including EKG signals).
• Assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments.
• Ensure rooms have adequate patient care supplies and linen is clean.
• Assist patients with various issues or needs and provide emotional support.
• Place patient on cardiac monitor.
• Empty drains, ostomies, and foley bags.
• Perform blood sugar checks.
• Assist with other duties assigned by the department leader.
