Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support Registered Nurses in direct and indirect patient care on the unit. The role requires CNA certification or active nursing student status, CPR/BLS, and a strong focus on patient safety.

Responsibilities include admissions/discharges, vital signs, specimen collection, newborn care in nursery, and timely response to call lights, while maintaining a clean, safe environment and collaborating with nursing staff.

Qualifications

• CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing who has completed basic clinical rotations.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• Minimum 90% on annual Health and Safety Training quizzes.
• Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.
• High school diploma required; college nursing education or equivalent experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
• Takes and records temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, height, and blood pressure.
• Collects specimens and observes newborns in nursery.
• Transports patients, equipment and supplies during urgent situations.
• Assists with pre- and post-operative care and patient positioning.
• Responds to patient call lights and monitors, provides morning and evening care.
