Job summary

Northwestern Medicine in Chicago is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support the Registered Nurse in direct and indirect patient care, in a fast-paced unit. You will assist with admissions, take vitals including glucose checks, perform phlebotomy as needed, transport supplies and patients, and provide newborn and routine care under RN supervision.

Certification and BLS are required, and a background check is conducted.

Qualifications

• CNA Certification or current enrollment in School of Nursing.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• Minimum 90% on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
• Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.
• High school diploma required; one year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with the ability to relate to patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
• Takes and records temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, height, and blood pressure.
• Transports patients and supplies during urgent situations and to the front desk on discharge.
• Performs basic newborn care and newborn screening procedures as directed.
• Responds to patient call lights promptly and assists with daily patient care tasks.
• Assists RN with perioperative and routine nursing procedures.
