Job summary

GMH Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV is seeking a patient care technician for a PRN position to support licensed staff and deliver direct patient care under RN supervision. Responsibilities include vital signs, personal hygiene, and assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharge processes.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, BLS within 30 days, and CNA or WVUM PCT program certification, with prior patient care experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire date.
• Must meet one of: nationally certified patient care technician; WVUM Patient Care Technician program; current CNA certification.

Responsibilities

• Observes and reports patient concerns/changes to a registered nurse.
• Assists RN with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
• Records vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and comfort measures; tracks intake/output.
• Assists in specimen collection and activities of assigned patients.
• Maintains a clean, safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
• Reports equipment repairs to appropriate personnel.
• Prepares patients for examinations and procedures per departmental procedure.
• Communicates nutrition issues to RN and assists with diet changes.
• Assists department with administrative tasks and answers call bells.
