Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk in Patchogue, NY, is seeking a Nurse Aide for the 2 Main unit. The Full-Time Day shift runs 7AM–7PM on alternating days, supporting the registered nurse and delivering essential patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• BLS certification (AHA) and first aid training.
• De-escalation training provided on job.
• Ability to read and write at an elementary school level to understand the patient's plan of care and to record data on the patient's medical record
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations at an elementary school level in order to take and record the patient's weight, vital signs, I&O
• Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families that demonstrate recognition of cultural diversity
• Basic analytical skills in order to gather data, complete comparisons, interpret, & report outcomes to the nurse or document on the medical record.
• Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
• Must possess excellent customer service skills

Responsibilities

• Deliver basic nursing care to provide for the care and comfort needs of the patient.
• Respond to patient's call lights promptly and relay information to nursing staff.
• Observe patient and report changes in condition.
• Assist with activities of daily living.
• Adapt care delivery to meet individual patient needs.
• Perform tasks such as vital signs, baths, skin care, catheter care, and specimen collection.
• Demonstrate proper turning, positioning and transferring techniques.
• Distribute nourishment and assist with feeding as needed.
• Maintain a clean and safe patient environment.
• Identify patients before care delivery and verify ID bands.
• Participate in safety and Falls Prevention measures.
• Support management to improve the environment of care.
• Attend educational programs to maintain competence.
