Job summary

Upbring in Texas is seeking a Cook to prepare and serve meals for residents, ensuring NSLP compliance, food safety, and a clean kitchen. You will follow schedules, monitor sanitation, and support a safe, respectful dining experience.

You will collaborate with the Kitchen Manager, manage inventories, and help with purchasing while maintaining positive relationships with staff and volunteers. This role requires 21+ age, food manager/handler certification, and strong communication; occasional

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older per licensing requirements.
• Current Food Manager’s permit/certification OR Food Handler’s permit/certification; or ability to obtain within two weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prep, prepare, and serve meals according to NSLP guidelines; calibrate thermometers and maintain food safety and quality per regulations.
• Monitor cooking, storage, and working areas for safety and sanitation; receive and stock items; clean and sanitize equipment and utensils daily.
• Maintain kitchen equipment and follow cleaning procedures after shifts.
• Assist Kitchen Manager with inventory tracking, meal planning, shopping lists, and purchasing help.
• Develop positive working relationships with staff, residents, volunteers, and vendors to meet residents' needs and ensure high standards; provide respectful service to youth.
• Complete documentation accurately; report youth safety or sanitation concerns to Kitchen Manager promptly.
• Maintain required training and licenses for food preparation in compliance with NSLP and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.
