Job summary

MercyOne in Ankeny, IA is seeking a Full-time Medical Assistant to support patient care across procedures, labs, and clinical services. You will prepare charts, take vital signs, and assist with immunizations, tests, and documentation under provider supervision.

Successful candidates will complete an accredited MA program and obtain MA certification within one year, plus BLS within 3 months. You will work in a collaborative, mission-driven setting that values confidentiality and patient advocacy.

Qualifications

• Completed an accredited medical assistant program (CAAHP or ABHES).
• Must obtain MA certification (CMA/RMA/NCMA/CCMA/NRCMA/NPCE MA) within 1 year of hire.
• BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
• Able to read, write, and understand English with effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care through preparation, vital sign collection, and documentation.
• Administer medications, treatments, and immunizations under providers’ direction.
• Prepare and organize patient charts; document care plans and test results.
• Schedule procedures, labs, x-rays, surgeries; provide pre/post-surgery information.
• Coordinate physician schedules and insurance pre-certifications; manage follow-ups.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethics and organizational policies.
• Educate patients and families; promote evidence-based resources.
• Assist in training new staff and support cross-coverage as needed.
• Document plans of care and escalate non-routine issues to managers.
• Ensure safety/checklists/quality controls are completed.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable laws and Trinity Health policies.
