Job summary

Wheeling Hospital, Inc. in Wheeling, WV is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide direct patient care in the skilled nursing setting.

You will record observations, assist with daily activities, and support therapy and nursing staff to maintain patient comfort and safety. This full-time, on-site role requires completion of state CNA certification and BLS within 30 days, with weekend and holiday shifts as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions per policy.
• Strong reading and comprehension skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Math skills for calculating medications.

Responsibilities

• Record entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, etc., accurately per policy/procedures.
• Measure and record temperatures, pulse, and respirations.
• Provide care per age-specific standards for adults and geriatrics.
• Use vital signs equipment, k-pad, scales, oxygen tanks, drainage systems, SCDs, CPM machine, bladder scanner.
• Assist with daily hygiene, including dental and mouth care, bathing, hair care, and nail care.
• Assist with nail care per policy.
• Turn and position bedfast patients every 2 hours; assist with bowel/bladder functions.
• Respond to call bells promptly per policy.
• Provide care for dying patients and postmortem care as needed.
• Catheter care per policy.
• Assist with ADL activities with/without adaptive equipment as advised by therapist/nurse.
• Serve food trays, assist with feeding, and record intake.
• Provide snacks between meals and at bedtime.
• Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning and transporting patients with proper body mechanics.
• Report all allegations of patient abuse or misappropriation of patient property per federal/procedure rules.
• Report all accidents/incidents observed on shift per policy.
• Assist with specialized feeding techniques per speech therapist recommendations.
• Assist with ambulation and CPM administration as instructed by PT.
• Apply orthopedic devices as directed by PT.
• Use safety equipment (lifts, devices) for patient movement.
