Job summary

Angels Care Hospice in Omaha, NE is seeking a compassionate hospice aide to work under a registered nurse, providing personal care and comfort to patients in their homes. You will assist with bathing, grooming, feeding, mobility, and transfer assistance, while communicating observations to the case manager and respecting patient and family confidentiality.

Must meet state training requirements (min 75 training hours, 18 years old) and be able to read and follow instructions; empathy and calm

Qualifications

• Meets the training requirements of the State.
• Completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training. Sixteen hours of classroom must be completed prior to a mandatory 16 hours of practical training.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
• Understands hospice philosophy, comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill.
• Satisfactory references from previous employers.
• Is self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision.
• Secure with issues of death/dying.
• Provides a calm manner when in a patient’s home.
• Has empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impaired.

Responsibilities

• Performing personal care needs after assignment and attending to requests promptly.
• Provide compassionate communication to patient and family with confidentiality.
• Giving personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linen.
• Assisting in dressing and undressing patients.
• Planning and preparing nutritious meals, including shopping.
• Assisting in feeding the patient.
• Providing proper care and observation of patient’s skin to prevent breakdown.
• Assessing and reporting changes to the Case Manager.
• Assisting in ambulation and exercise as directed.
• Provide ROM and transfers/positioning.
• Offering and assisting with bedpans and urinals; light laundry.
• ROM and other simple procedures as ordered.
