Job summary

Service Corporation International is seeking an on-site Funeral Services Assistant to provide clerical and administrative support for funeral operations. You will meet the general public, answer questions about funeral and cremation information, assist at services, visitations, and ceremonies, and attend monthly staff meetings.

The role requires assisting with service setup, caring for remains, driving funeral home vehicles when needed, and ensuring proper handling of clients and items.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for services by setting up floral arrangements, chairs, caskets, urns, photos and keepsakes; ensures proper care and storage of items.
• Prepares documents related to services, cremations, maintenance as directed by management.
• Assists with the preparation of remains including dressing and lifting, or operation of crematory, as allowed by law and company rules.
• Performs office duties: answering phones, operating fax, computer, multiline phone system, debit card machine, typewriter, postage meter and scale, stereo/video system.
• Run errands for floral delivery, supplies, documents, etc.
• Serves as an usher; may park cars or perform transportation duties.
• Drives funeral home vehicles for services and family pickups.
• Ensures refreshments are available where permitted by law.
• Assists with visitations, memorial and funeral services (set up, dressing and casketing, delivering family items).
• Greets and receives client families entering the office for information and assistance.
• Accommodates family needs during a service and/or visitation.
• May wash and clean funeral home vehicles and other client vehicles as required.
