Job summary

Essence Services Inc in Akron, OH is seeking a dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our growing team. This role focuses on providing personalized care and daily living support to individuals with IDD, helping them live more independently.

You will assist with personal hygiene, meal prep, transport to appointments, and ISPs, while documenting progress and collaborating with families and care teams. We value compassion, reliability, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prior experience as a DSP, caregiver, home health aide, or in a related field preferred.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred (no more than 4 points on license).
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
• CPR/First Aid certification, Medication Administration (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and daily living support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
• Assist clients with personal hygiene, grooming, meal preparation, and household tasks.
• Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) and document progress accurately.
• Transport and accompany clients to medical appointments, community activities, and errands.
• Encourage client independence, skill-building, and community integration.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, family members, and care team members.
• Respond appropriately to behavioral challenges using approved techniques and protocols.
