Job summary

SUN Behavioral Health Columbus is seeking a dedicated Behavioral Health Technician to provide direct and supportive patient care under the supervision of RNs and LPNs. The role emphasizes safety, observation, and collaboration within the treatment team to maintain a therapeutic environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication, de-escalation skills, and meticulous documentation while promoting compassionate care and adherence to hospital policies and HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED and CPR/de-escalation certifications.
• Preferred: CNA certification and some college coursework with healthcare exposure.
• Experience: prior healthcare experience is required; one year as a behavioral health technician is preferred; substitution of education for experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Performs and records patient vital signs and intake/output; notifies RN of changes.
• Continuously observes patients’ behavior and mental status and informs RN of changes.
• Escorts patients for activities, meals, visitation, and tests.
• Assists with patient safety checks and documentation.
• Assists with restraints and seclusion under RN direction using CPI techniques.
• Participates in treatment team meetings and communicates with nurses, therapists, and physicians.
• Works on observation rounds and supports orientation of new staff and therapeutic groups.
• Maintains HIPAA-compliant and policy-based documentation; ensures safety and quality in daily activities.
