Job summary

Dartmouth College's Hopkins Center for the Arts seeks a Company Manager to plan and advance performing artist visits, ensuring residencies run smoothly and communications stay clear across departments.

The role reports to the Senior Production Manager and collaborates with the Hop Associate Producer, Program Manager, Production Managers, Events Managers, and Engagement staff to deliver successful productions and artist experiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in education and experience in arts management or administration.
  • Understanding of the theatre process—production, technical and performance; demonstrates success planning events.

  • Ability to prioritize, manage shifting priorities, and handle multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Handle overall performance advancing with accommodations, travel logistics, hospitality and itineraries.
  • Serve as primary contact for artists/agents to advance performances and share details with colleagues.
  • Advance work including artists’ special needs, merchandise, seating and backstage access.
  • Coordinate with Business Office and Programming on artist payments and reimbursements.
  • Be on site to represent the Hop for non-technical elements of performances.

Position Purpose

The Company Manager is responsible for the planning and advancing of performing artist visits associated with the professional presenting and producing program at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. This critical position manages essential support required to maintain efficient residencies and programs and serves as an internal communications hub for artists’ needs and itineraries. Reporting to the Senior Production Manager, this position will work closely in conjunction with the Hop Associate Producer, Program Manager, Production Managers, Events Managers as well as Engagement staff.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • - Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience in arts management or administration.
  • - Understanding of the various elements of the theatre process – production, technical and performance. Demonstrated success planning events.
  • - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • -Ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
  • - Demonstrated creativity, problem solving skills, taking initiative, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • - Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels with diplomacy and tactfulness.
  • - Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management, and customer service skills. Must be well organized and detailed oriented.- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and other online documents, such as Google Docs.
  • - Ability to interact and successfully collaborate with a broad spectrum of contributing groups and customers.

Description
  • Handles overall performance advancing with respect to accommodations, travel logistics, hospitality and itineraries.
  • Point person for communications with Artists, Artist Managers or Agents to advance each performance by obtaining details regarding each show and disseminating such details to appropriate colleagues.
  • Advance work includes all things artist-related including but not limited to their special needs, merchandise sales and preferences related to late seating, complimentary tickets and backstage visitors.
  • Works with the Business Office, Programming and Producing departments on artist payments/reimbursements.
  • On site to facilitate all non-technical elements for each performance which includes being the artist’s representative from the Hop.
  • Secures and accompanies (if needed) the artist to and from their temporary housing for all events in support of activities such as master classes, engagement activities, rehearsals and performances.
  • Provides artist with tour or familiarity of the facilities and provides access to wireless and other requirements as needed.
  • Oversees dressing rooms and ancillary spaces used by artists to make sure they are in proper clean and working condition in advance of visitor’s arrival.
  • Assists with building operations as they relate to artist needs, such as dressing rooms, door access, facility lock up etc.
  • Responds to requests for information regarding all internal and external individuals regarding each Hopkins Center performance.
  • Coordinates with Production for all events in terms of identifying time and space needs, resources and load-ins for both rehearsals and performances.
  • Assists the production department with getting artists to the stage and prepared for their performance.
  • Oversee guest services and resolve issues by sending them to the right departments.
  • Works closely with the programming and producing staff to contribute guidance in the area of Artist Services with respect to artist agreements.
  • Manages and mentors student support staff.
