Job summary

Bowery Residents Committee (BRC) seeks a Community Technician for Bowery Safe Haven in Manhattan, NY. This full-time role covers overnight shifts (Friday–Tuesday, 11pm–7:30am) with mandatory overtime.

You will maintain a safe, supportive environment, apply trauma-informed care, monitor residents, and document activities for crisis intervention and case progression. Benefits include Day One health/dental insurance, paid vacation and holidays, a 403(b) plan, tuition assistance, and ongoing staff

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided)
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes)
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep

At BRC, every shift matters. As a Community Technician, you’re a consistent, trusted presence for individuals experiencing homelessness—often supporting people in moments of crisis, uncertainty, or transition.

This hands-on, frontline role is ideal for those interested in social work, human services, public health, or emergency response. No prior shelter experience required—just strong judgment, empathy, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

What You’ll Do

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds
