Job summary

Job description

About the Role
  • Provides information to individuals or groups regarding services offered by public or private agencies
  • Assists applicants in filling out forms for services and explains procedures to be followed
  • Makes routine field visits to gather documentation and obtain information concerning an applicant's eligibility for agency services
  • Assists clients in locating housing by interviewing landlords and brokers regarding vacancies; transports clients to prospective housing; discusses financial arrangements with landlords and assists clients in obtaining relocation allowances
  • Assists professional social service workers in evaluating day care and foster care homes by performing collateral visits to schools and other agencies to obtain information concerning prospective homes
  • Maintains case plans by providing supportive home visits to clients
  • Provides transportation for clients in conjunction with the delivery of agency services

Salary: $39,096

Note: This position does not offer relocation assistance or sponsorship.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
  • One (1) year of experience in a position with substantial client contact in a public or private social service agency
  • Additional education from a college with federally‑authorized accreditation or registration by NY State will be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis
  • Valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State (required at time of appointment and throughout employment)
Provisional Appointment

The position is a provisional appointment, a temporary appointment without a sufficient eligible list. To become permanent, the provisional employee must take the next examination for the position. The appointment is then made from among the top three candidates who indicate willingness to accept the position.
