Job summary

County of Los Angeles is seeking Recreation Services Leaders to assist our Recreation Staff with organized sports, special programs and classes from aerobics to Teen Clubs across 181 parks. You will coordinate programs, monitor equipment and facilities, ensure safety, and provide direction to temporary or seasonal staff to help deliver high‑quality public programs.

Qualifications

• 240 hours of experience instructing, conducting or planning recreational programs in arts & crafts, dance, music or in outdoor recreation in nature, outdoor games, outdoor sports.
• OR
• 100 hours of experience as a Park Aide, NC in the Department of Parks and Recreation.
• OR
• Completion of 120 hours of work experience through the Department of Human Resources/Youth@Work Countywide Youth Bridges Program (CYBP) with the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation OR with Los Angeles County Library. Requires CYBP certificate.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate or organize the presentation of programs such as arts and crafts, dance, music, and theater arts; assist in the development and presentation of special recreation programs for senior citizens, youths, and people with disabilities.
• Coordinate park club activities and assist in the development of park holiday programs such as Christmas, Easter, and Halloween.
• Plan and coordinate playground, and community center athletic activities including tournaments, leagues and contests.
• Monitor the use and care of equipment and facilities at one or more parks.
• Inspect playground equipment and facilities for safety and proper operation.
• Maintain or assist in maintaining safety, cleanliness, and order at park facilities; monitors activities and insures safety rules are observed.
• Assist in the preparation of athletic fields for tournaments and leagues.
• Assist with routine clerical duties such as the preparation of use permits and reports, fee collection and reporting, and program scheduling.
• Assist in the handling of public complaints.
• Provide direction to temporary or seasonal staff, as needed.
