Job summary

Shepherd’s House Ministries in Bend, Oregon, is seeking a compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join The Lighthouse Navigation Center in person. The role focuses on creating a welcoming environment, helping guests access navigation services, and supporting health, stability, and recovery.

You will collaborate with the Associate Director and program staff, build trust with participants, coordinate with case managers, and connect clients to community resources.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in social services or related field is a plus.
• Previous experience in a peer support or social services role preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs.
• Experience with homelessness, addiction recovery, mental health, and trauma-informed care.
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with basic computer skills (MS Office, email).
• Familiarity with community resources for homelessness is desirable.
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to safely operate a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming and safe environment for guests at The Lighthouse Navigation Center.
• Assist in developing and facilitating daily experiential learning activities.
• Engage with participants to understand their stories and build trust.
• Help participants connect with case managers, service providers, and treatment teams.
• Advocate for and provide referrals to access health and other services.
• Escort participants to appointments as needed.
• Introduce participants to supportive services and activities.
• Support volunteers in navigating relations with participants and staff.
• Collaborate to address chronic homelessness with partners and team.
• Respond to emergencies and discuss case plans with participants.
