Job summary

Tolono Public Library District is seeking an Outreach Clerk to support outreach services under the Community Engagement Librarian. You will participate in developing programs, visiting community events, and delivering library services to children, families, and underserved populations.

You will assist patrons with catalog access, apply for library cards, manage holds and circulation, and help set up outreach events.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Highly organized with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to bend, stoop, lift book bags, push loaded book carts.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Solid working knowledge of MS Office.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Ability to work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Carries out visits to community events, community organizations, businesses, and senior centers; prepare materials and conduct programming.
• Develop partnerships with the community under guidance of the Community Engagement Librarian.
• Promotes reading and literacy to children, families, and underserved populations at outreach events and maintains community contact.
• Assists customers in accessing community services.
• Assists customers in using the online catalog and other electronic tools; instructs customers in library services, equipment, and facilities.
• Assists customers in applying for a library card; uses hardware and software to enter and retrieve information.
• Assists customers with holds, circulation and accessing library services and resources.
• Anticipates customer needs and delivers timely, accurate information; promotes cooperation and trust.
• Attends meetings/workshops related to programming and outreach; helps set up outreach events.
• Process donated materials for inclusion in outreach giveaways or book fundraisers.
• On occasion, may fill in as circulation clerk and perform duties like check-in/check-out, answering calls, placing holds, preparing cards, and shelving.
