Essie Justice Group in Los Angeles is seeking a Community Organizer to advance leadership development for women and gender expansive people with incarcerated loved ones. You will recruit members, support campaigns, and help run events and outreach.

This full‑time, salaried role offers a salary between $70,000 and $74,000, with full medical, dental, and vision benefits, an optional 401(k), generous vacation, and a monthly wellness stipend.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of experience in organizing, with decarceration advocacy a strong plus.
• Commitment to leadership development for women and gender expansive people.
• Excellent time-management, organizational, and event-planning skills.
• Effective writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
• Collaborative team player in a fast-paced, non-traditional environment.

Responsibilities

• Recruit and retain members to join Essie’s membership and participate in programs.
• Monitor participation and retention trends; support leadership development via committees.
• Organize meetings and gatherings that are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with Essie’s values.
• Assist in campaign activities such as direct actions, rallies, and meetings with officials.
• Support canvassing, phone banking, and production of member-facing communications.
