Job summary

Essie Justice Group seeks a Senior Community Organizer to recruit and engage members, build leadership, and drive campaigns to end mass incarceration. The role emphasizes relational organizing, data-driven planning, and cross- functional collaboration.

Based in Essie’s Los Angeles office, you will lead campaigns, manage projects end-to-end, and mentor members while coordinating with partners to advance campaign priorities and protective community safety and dignity.

Qualifications

• 3-4+ years of experience in organizing (community-based, issue-based, electoral, or labor)
• Commitment to leadership development of women and gender-expansive people with incarcerated loved ones
• Excellent time-management, organizational, and event-planning skills
• Effective writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
• Able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, non-traditional environment
• Proficiency with Mac OS, Google Suite, and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Passion for gender justice, race justice, and ending mass incarceration

Responsibilities

• Recruit women with incarcerated loved ones and retain participation in Essie’s programming.
• Plan and track leadership development via committees and campaigns.
• Lead data-informed strategy through participation trends and engagement analytics.
• Manage organizing projects end-to-end and create member-facing materials.
• Collaborate across teams to align priorities and measure success.
• Support partner relationships and organize member trainings and events.
