Job summary

The Senior Community Organizer is a full-time, exempt position based at Essie Justice Group’s Los Angeles office. You will recruit and retain members, develop leadership pathways, and drive campaigns that advance decarceration and gender justice.

You’ll manage projects, track engagement data, and collaborate across teams to support campaign priorities and build political power for families affected by incarceration.

Qualifications

• 3-4+ years of organizing experience (community-based, issue-based, electoral, or labor)
• Commitment to leadership of women and gender expansive people with incarcerated loved ones
• Excellent time-management, organizational, and event-planning skills
• Effective writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency with Mac, Google Workspace, and MS Office
• Commitment to gender justice, race justice, and ending mass incarceration

Responsibilities

• Recruit new members and steward participation in Essie’s programming and campaigns
• Track member retention trends and plan leadership development
• Support member meetings and inclusive participation in events
• Lead canvassing and door-knocking training for community engagement
• Create member- and partner-facing materials
• Manage cross-functional organizing projects end-to-end
• Analyze engagement data to inform strategy
