Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • General facilities and grounds maintenance including cleanup and landscaping.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of community events.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the Community Center.

Job description

Job Title: Community Maintenance Worker

Do you enjoy being part of a community and knowing your work helps make a difference? Join us in beautiful Fire Island Pines, a friendly, vibrant community located on a barrier beach. Travel to work is by ferry, offering a tranquil commute across the Great South Bay.

Fire Island Pines is the largest residential community on Fire Island, with about 600 homes and 100 co-ops. The population swells to around 5,000 in summer. Our community is welcoming to all, including renters and guests.

We are supported by FIPPOA, a non-profit organization overseeing community operations and ecosystem protection, and The Pines Foundation, which funds local programs and projects.

Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or higher
  • Experience in maintenance, handyman work, or landscaping is a plus

Job Responsibilities
  • General facilities and grounds maintenance, including cleanup, landscaping, package pickup/delivery, organizing, painting, equipment moving, garbage disposal, power washing, event setup/breakdown, snow removal
  • Maintain dog waste dispensers throughout the community
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of community events (tables and chairs)
  • Conduct daily inspections of the Community Center, ensuring doors are locked at day’s end
  • Follow directions for maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping tasks
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and leadership
  • Respond swiftly to emergency situations
  • Work outdoors and indoors in all seasons
  • Operate or assist with ATV’s, tools, and light equipment
  • Perform other duties as needed; duties may change based on organizational needs

Work Schedule and Compensation

Full-time or part-time (30-40 hours/week), with pay based on experience. Schedule is flexible; some weekends and holidays required during summer months. Employment runs from mid-March to mid-December (full-time) and mid-December to mid-March (part-time).

Commute Requirement

Must be able to commute via ferry to Fire Island Pines, NY 11782. Ferry costs are covered by FIPPOA.
