The City of Chicago is seeking a Community Living Specialist within the Department of Family and Support Services, Seniors Division. This role supports Senior Centers and I&A units by providing on-site supervision, coordinating resources, and assisting staff and partners to ensure program integrity and resident well-being.

Responsibilities include convening meetings with contracted agencies, delivering training, and addressing operational needs across DFSS Regional Centers.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (or higher) in Gerontology, Psychology, Social Services, Public Health or related field plus 1 year of work experience in social service program planning/administration; or Bachelor's degree in the listed fields plus 2 years of experience.

Starting Annual Salary: $74,160

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

The Senior Services Division provides direct services through staff located at six Regional Senior Centers. Additionally, the Senior Services Division partners with service providers who specialize in meeting the needs of aging adults by providing meals, caregiver support services, case management and benefit counseling. The Senior Services Division has an annual budget of $30 million. A sizeable portion of this funding is granted to community partners through a competitive grant making process. The Senior Services Division funds over 15 programs serving over 100,000 individuals across 30 delegate agencies impacting every Chicago neighborhood.

Position will be responsible for providing supervisor support to the Senior Centers/I&A Unit. This includes on-site assistance at DFSS Regional Seniors and Central I&A on a floating basis to address operational need.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Performs other duties and fulfills additional responsibilities

Hours: 8:30AM - 4:30PM

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or higher in Gerontology, Psychology, Social Services, Public Health or a directly related field, plus one year of work experience in the planning, implementation, and administration of social service programs; or a Bachelor's degree in the above listed fields and two years of work experience in the planning, implementation, and administration of social service programs
