Job summary

Peoria Public Library is seeking a Full-Time Library Assistant assigned to the North Branch. The role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, reference support, circulation duties, and helping with programs and daily library operations.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and at least six months of related experience, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, and pension options. Flexibility across locations may be needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to gain thorough knowledge of Peoria Public Library’s policies and procedures.
• Ability to act as a representative of Peoria Public Library to the public.
• General knowledge of public library service principles and procedures.
• Basic knowledge of circulation and reference services and procedures.
• Ability to establish priorities and organize workload.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals.

Responsibilities

• Provide reference and readers advisory service in person or by phone.
• Perform circulation duties including checkouts, cards, and fines.
• Assist with shelving, weeding, and display mounting.
• Process holds and notify customers when ready for pickup.
• Assist in program support for summer reading, tours, and events.
• Maintain cleanliness and order of work areas and equipment.
