Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a part-time Kitchen Assistant in Fort Dodge, IA, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Compensation ranges from $12.00 to $14.00 per hour based on experience.

Responsibilities include menu planning, inventory management of pantry items, and daily food preparation in compliance with Health Department standards. The role requires basic computer skills and background checks; Safe from Harm and Serve Safe training are required within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
• Knowledge of basic tools, cleaning equipment and cleaning products.
• Basic computer skills with ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
• Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
• Preferred cooking experience
• Must pass all applicable background checks.
• Must complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days, and Serve Safe/CPR/AED as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare a weekly/monthly menu for lunch and dinner, based on inventory.
• Responsible for inventories of Kitchen Pantry, refrigerators and freezer items with rotation of stock and placing food orders.
• Coordinate daily food preparation and serving in a manner consistent with Health Department standards.
• Maintain a sanitary working environment in all areas including Kitchen, Dining Room, Storage Rooms and walk-in freezers.
• Maintain proper food storage procedures per Health Department guidelines.
• Ensure volunteers and employees maintain safe and sanitary conditions during prep, serving and storage.
