Job summary

American Heart Association in Iowa seeks a Community Impact Director to foster relationships with community leaders, volunteers and businesses, advancing cardiovascular health and heart-healthy policies. Focus areas include policy, systems and environmental changes, education, and public awareness campaigns.

The role requires 3 years of relevant public health/community experience, a university degree, and ability to travel ~25% daily.

Qualifications

• 3 years of relevant experience with community/public health issues and/or managing community/public health promotion or related educational programs.
• University/College degree or equivalent experience.
• Proven ability to recruit, mobilize and manage volunteers, including C-suite level executives.
• Effective relationship management, with the ability to gain trust and influence without authority.
• Self-starter who works well in a team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to drive toward results.
• Proven ability to apply marketing insights to develop appropriate strategies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to travel daily approximately 25% with some overnight travel; requires access to reliable transportation at all times.

Responsibilities

• Develops and nurtures relationships with businesses, healthcare providers, community organizations, and government agencies to promote heart health.
• Drives heart-health-focused PSE changes that improve access to healthy food, tobacco-free environments, and healthcare resources.
• Recruits, trains, and manages volunteers and strategic community alliances to support community impact initiatives.
• Implements and tracks performance metrics to demonstrate program effectiveness and provides recommendations.
• Acts as subject matter expert in community engagement initiatives for health risk factors.
• Coordinates community health education initiatives and public awareness campaigns related to heart disease and stroke prevention.
• Collaborates on sponsorship or funding initiatives by sharing program expertise.
• Participates in community initiatives and represents the organization at events.
