Job summary

American Heart Association is seeking a Community Impact Director for the Eastern Iowa/Central Illinois market. The role builds relationships with community leaders, volunteers and partners to promote heart health and implement policy, systems and environmental changes.

You will recruit and manage volunteers, measure program effectiveness, and engage in outreach to improve local health outcomes while working across diverse community settings.

Qualifications

• 3 years of relevant experience with community/public health issues and/or managing community/public health promotion, or related educational programs
• Proven ability to recruit, mobilize and manage volunteers, including C-suite level executives
• Effective relationship management, with the ability to gain trust and influence without authority
• Self-starter who works well in a team environment
• Demonstrated ability to drive toward results
• Proven ability to apply marketing insights to develop appropriate strategies
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to travel daily approximately 25% with some overnight travel; requires access to reliable transportation at all times
• Ability to lift and/or move large objects (such as boxes) with the expectation that heavier items would be broken down into smaller components, or requesting additional assistance may be required before lifting and/or moving.

Responsibilities

• Develops and nurtures relationships with businesses, healthcare providers, community organizations, and government agencies to promote heart health.
• Collaborates with volunteers and key partners to identify and implement strategies on heart disease and stroke prevention within the market.
• Drives heart-health-focused PSE changes that improve access to healthy food, tobacco-free environments, and healthcare resources.
• Recruits, trains, and manages volunteers and strategic community alliances in support of improving health and engaging in collective impact initiatives.
• Implements and tracks performance metrics to demonstrate the effectiveness of community impact programs.
• Acts as subject matter expert in AHA initiatives for community engagement in health risk factors.
• Coordinates community health education initiatives and public awareness campaigns related to heart disease and stroke prevention.
• Collaborates on sponsorship or funding initiatives and participates in revenue-related activities as needed.
• Participates in community initiatives and represents the organization at gatherings, events, or forums.
