Job summary

West Valley City is seeking a Fire Inspector to perform fire and life safety inspections, enforce codes, and educate the public. The role involves coordinating with operations and ensuring safe building practices across residential, commercial, and public facilities.

The position requires high school completion, valid Utah driver’s license, and ICC certifications with growth opportunities. Expect a 4x10 schedule, non-exempt status, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; strong English and mathematics skills.
• Preferred at least one year of full-time employment interpreting fire or building codes.
• Must possess valid Utah driver’s license and be able to obtain liability insurance.
• ICC Fire Inspector I within one year; ICC Fire Inspector II within two years; additional certifications as duties progress.

Responsibilities

• Conducts fire and life safety inspections of new and existing buildings to ensure conformity to fire prevention codes and ordinances.
• Responds to and resolves fire code violation complaints and educates owners on corrective actions.
• Assesses readiness of fire protection systems and equipment and attends events to ensure safety compliance.
• Provides public education on fire prevention and participates in homeland security training.
