Job summary

City of Oxford seeks a versatile Recreation Assistant to help develop, manage, and implement the Parks & Recreation Department’s programs and events in the Oxford area. You will assist with youth programs, special events, Aquatic Center operations, and Summer Camp under the guidance of the Events/Program Supervisor.

You will help plan, staff, and evaluate programs; recruit volunteers, maintain records, and support facility upgrades and community outreach while delivering excellent customer

Qualifications

• Knowledge of principles, practices and theories of recreation program development and coordination.
• Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of all computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.

Responsibilities

• Assists in planning, organizing, supervising, evaluating, and implementing special programs and events.
• Assist with implementing the department marketing plan and school visits.
• Maintain accurate attendance records for events and programs.
• Recruit, interview, train, and supervise volunteers for programs and events; supervise seasonal staff.
• Purchase and organize supplies for events and programs.
• Attend meetings and assist community organizations with events.
• Assist in facility upgrades and park improvement projects.
• Support seasonal and summer camp operations.
• Maintain Emergency Action Plans and incident reports.
• Provide excellent customer service and be a role model for the community.
